Summer reading launched
by Connie Christopher
Cathlamet Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Catch the Reading Bug,” got off to a grand start on Wednesday morning, July 9. Some of the children who attended the first session are pictured here with new books the Library recently received through a grant from The Libri Foundation.
Participants and parents were greeted in the parking lot by a giant bug, nearly six-feet tall, carrying a placard simply stating “Read,” Traci Hering, volunteer and mother, read “Hey Little Ant” and helped the kids make clay ants. Brianna Parsons, youth volunteer, processed nearly 90 checked-outs and issued new Library cards.
About 40 children signed-up for the program. Each child who reads 10-books or more will receive prizes on the last day celebration, August 13. There will also be a special prize for the one who reads the most books.
Also, for the adults, please note that the Library’s selection of free magazines has been moved to the small computer room. There is an excellent variety and quantity of magazines for summer reading pleasure.
New DVD’s recently added to the Library’s collection include: Charlie Wilson’s War, In the Shadow of the Moon, The Inheritance, Jesus of Nazareth, Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D, Waking Ned Divine and Whale Rider.
